While you’re in the area
- Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial — 30 minutes from Holiday World. Where Abe Lincoln grew up (1816–1830). Free, easy half-day trip, especially good for the history-curious kid.
- Patoka Lake — about 45 minutes northeast. The biggest lake in southern Indiana. Boating, fishing, paddleboards, hiking.
- Newburgh riverfront — 5 minutes from the Barn. Walkable downtown, the Ohio River, dinner at Cafe Arazu or Knob Hill Tavern.
- Friedman Park — also 5 minutes away. 175 acres, free splash pad, playgrounds, paved trails. A no-cost rest day if the kids aren’t tired of water yet.
- Mesker Park Zoo (Evansville) — 20 minutes from the Barn. Walkthrough rainforest, never too crowded, good half-day option.
- Evansville riverfront — 15 minutes. Riverwalk, museums, breweries, the Bosse Field baseball stadium (third-oldest pro ballpark in the country).

Common questions
How far is the Barn from Holiday World?
About 45 minutes by car (roughly 35 miles south). It's a straight shot up Highway 66 through scenic Ohio River country. The drive's pleasant during the day; at night after the park closes, it's quiet two-lane road most of the way — nothing dicey, just country roads.
Why drive 45 minutes instead of staying closer?
The options right next to the park are great — Lake Rudolph Campground and Santa's Lodge are both popular with Holiday World guests. They also tend to book up early in the season, and they're smaller than what works for a bigger group. If you want a real house instead — full kitchen, in-unit laundry, full AC, and room to spread out — the 45-minute drive is usually a worthwhile trade.
How many people sleep at the Barn?
Up to 12 comfortably. The space has two bedrooms — one of them is a large open upstairs loft — with multiple beds spread across both. It works especially well for larger groups traveling together where everyone can spread out.
What's included for a Holiday World trip specifically?
Full kitchen (so you can prep breakfast and pack lunches before the park), in-unit washer and dryer (essential for daily wet swimsuits), full air conditioning (essential after a splash-park day), ping pong table, cornhole boards, large outdoor patio, fast WiFi, smart-lock self check-in, and on-site parking for multiple vehicles.
Can we check in late after the park closes?
Yes. Self check-in with a smart-lock code — arrive any time, day or night. Holiday World closes around 9 PM in peak season; if you stay through fireworks at Lake Rudolph and roll in at 11, the code works the same. No key handoffs.
What about other nearby attractions while we're in town?
Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is 30 minutes from Holiday World (Abe Lincoln grew up here). Patoka Lake is great for boating. The Ohio River towns of Newburgh and Evansville have a riverwalk, restaurants, and Mesker Park Zoo. Locally, you're a couple minutes from Friedman Park (175 acres with a splash pad — yes, a free splash pad on Day 2 if the kids still aren't tired of water).
Is it cheaper than a hotel for a group?
Often, yes — especially for groups that would otherwise need two or more hotel rooms. The Barn is one whole-house rate that sleeps up to 12, and you save again on breakfast and lunches by using the kitchen. Most groups find it pencils out in favor of the house even before factoring in the food savings.
When should I book?
As early as you can — Holiday World season runs from May through early August and weekends fill first. If you're flexible on dates, weeknight stays (Sun–Thu) are easier to grab and significantly cheaper than Fri/Sat.
